Revenge of the Spinning Tops
topd

Yup, more tops! They've been a big hit, sold 7 in the last 24 hours. They're also a lot of fun to make and a great diversion from making beads, which can get kinda monotonous after a while. I'll try and make some more this weekend, especially with opal and I'll try some dichroic glass as well.

New Rubinos
IMG_4566

These are really hard to get a picture of, they have a subtle gold reflection and nice depth. These were my test beads to see how they come out before I make a bunch of them and take longer to make than my regular Rubino beads. Borosilicate and 22K gold. I made a set this evening and they're in the kiln cooling down.

Jellies!!!
Finally! I've been thinking of making these for a while and it finally manifested itself. These are Boro using gold/silver fume along with Momka color.

New Boro Pendants
I made some new pendants a couple of days ago. Paula from Tin City was kind enough to give me some Momka color to try out for our upcoming class.

Moretti fish bead with a dichroic body and a hand pulled black dichroic cane for the stripes.

New Dragonfly
IMG_4215

I made this one last month. The tail section is made up from a ribbon cane that I cut up into small section and built up. The wings are dichroic glass.

Spiders!

I made this at Corning last month.

Bullseye Damsel
IMG_4147

I love working with Bullseye, it's perfect for sculptural work. I used Gold/Purple for the body, and managed to get some browning Sad , I'll have to turn down the gas a bit next time. Also the 90COE dichro I have is old and dirty, I'll have to spend an evening cleaning it all with alcohol.

New Damselfly & Mishap
IMG_4133

I have two new Damselflies, I’ll get pics up ASAP. I made 4 but only two survived, I also cracked a really nice dichroic fish, where all the fins were dichro. Ah well, happens. I think I need to check the temp on my kiln, it may be running too hot. The tails on the damsels drooped in the kiln, so I had to gently reheat and straighten them.

Damselflies
IMG_4115

I made this this morning before work, and just took it out if the kiln. I've been struggling for a while on making dragonflies, and today it all fell into place! Moretti Glass with green dichroic wings, 5" long.

Spiders
IMG_4109

Moretti Spider, I made a few of these and this is the best one. About 2.5"

Beetles
IMG_4108

I've spent the last 3 days trying to make some beetles and spiders and finally have some that came out pretty well. The spiders are a real bitch to make, and I need to work more on technique. These are all made out of Moretti glass. More pics in the gallery.

My Fist Dragonfly's
IMG_4019

I made three dragonflies last night based on an article in Glass Line magazine by Milon Townsend. The legs are the hardest part for me, will have to practice more. They're about 3.5" long made out of borosilicate. More images in the gallery.

Spinning Tops
IMG_3803

I tried my hand yesterday at making spinning tops out of borosilicate glass. The rainbow colors are from persimmon strike, my new favorite color. Deep sea blue is another new favorite color.

Hollow Fish Beads
IMG_3501

I've been busy making fish again. Here's a sampling of a small school of them. The dichroic glass fish are very sparkly! Most of them are signed with a murrini cane. I'll have to start on a new cane soon, they're so time consuming to make, but last a long time since I just use a small slice.
